Spirent Communications™ Enhances CDMA2000 Core Wireless Network Test System; New Upgrades Improve Versatility and Increase Test Functionality

Spirent Communications™ today announced major enhancements to its CDMA2000 Performance Test System, the only performance system to combine carrier-scale Mobile IP testing, high-volume application traffic and roaming/mobility simulation in a single application package. Spirent also unveiled the new CDMA2000 Performance Test System ES, an entry-level system for benchmarking lower capacity PDSNs/foreign agents and home agents. Spirent's CPTS ES supports the same rich feature set and functionality of the more powerful CDMA2000 Performance Test System.

The Spirent CDMA2000 Performance Test System's powerful new features provide service providers and network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) with greater testing versatility and automation. The system can simulate more than six million mobile stations, and can help determine potential weak points on a network to ensure more accurate capacity planning. Customers can use the system to create the real world in the lab by simulating millions of mobile nodes connecting to the mobile network that is executing real application transactions and roaming between operators. The system can even establish end-to-end IPSec VPNs.

"Spirent's CDMA2000 Performance Test System enhancements and the new smaller CPTS ES demonstrate our ability to respond to the rapidly changing needs for benchmarking today's complex mobile networks," said John Curtis, director of core wireless infrastructure testing for Spirent Communications. "The enhanced full-featured system provides application layer test capabilities not previously available in the core wireless networking market. This is another example of Spirent's role in setting the standard for new test systems that enable faster deployment of new technologies and services."

The enhanced CDMA2000 Performance Test System includes HTTP, FTP, SMTP and WAP technologies, enabling services providers to verify the accuracy of content-based billing systems -- a critical first step toward leveraging new revenue streams from mobile applications such as picture messaging, MMS video and operator-hosted applications. The CDMA2000 Performance Test System version 1.1 and CPTS ES are available now.

Additional new features include:

bullet

IPSec for testing Simple IP and Mobile IP VPNs, and for simulation of thousands of mobile connections to secured networks such as private or corporate networks using IPSec

bullet

Up to 1,000 PCFs (Packet Control Functions) simulated per Test Server, extended duration load tests (up to 30 days) o Interval statistics reporting and logging every 15 seconds

bullet

Automated tests for determining maximum activation, deactivation, MIP revocation and handoff rate at various session loads
